Michael Hood, MD

Dr. Michael Hood developed a passion for emergency & trauma radiology during his diagnostic radiology residency at Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, NC, where exposure to the field through ASER and mentorship from senior leaders solidified his decision to pursue a career in emergency imaging. He completed his fellowship in Emergency Radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he honed his expertise in trauma imaging, operational efficiency, and imaging informatics. He now serves as an attending emergency radiologist and teaching faculty member at MGH/Mass General Brigham and Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Hood’s academic focus includes trauma biomechanics and novel applications of AI in imaging and operations. He is a key contributor to pioneering work in collaboration with the RSNA and industry partners to standardize data extraction from radiology reports, which underpins many modern workflows including clinical decision support, data mining, and automated report generation. He is also driving vendor partnerships to innovate and expand AI’s role in emergency radiology, including opportunistic screening.

Dr. Hood is a recognized educator who has contributed to national emergency radiology education through multiple invited presentations and a strong commitment to resident training and mentorship. As an active ASER member, he values the specialty’s strong, collaborative community and is highly dedicated to shaping its future. Outside of work, he enjoys music, graphic design, and world travel.
