- Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Emergency Management Institute (EMI): The EMI offers credit-bearing, self-paced online courses designed for individuals who have emergency management responsibilities and the public. Prior to enrolling in these courses, you must first obtain a FEMA Student ID (SID), which is free to all. The following four courses are recommended for emergency radiologists, preferably taken in order:
- National Incident Management System (NIMS), Course IS-700.B: This 3.5-hour course provides an overview of the NIMS, which is a common framework for emergency management and incident response that includes command and coordination of incidents, resource management, and information management.
- National Response Framework (NRF), Course IS-800.C: This 3-hour course describes the NRF, which is a set of national frameworks within the National Preparedness System aimed at building, sustaining, and delivering core capabilities in five mission areas: Prevention, Protection, Mitigation, Response, and Recovery.
- Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS), Course IS-100.C: This 2-hour course explored the ICS, which is a standardized approach to incident management that enables a coordinated response among various jurisdictions and agencies.
- Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response, Course IS-200.C: This 4-hour course describes the application of the ICS to health care organizations.
- Weapons of Mass Destruction(WMD)/Terrorism Awareness for Emergency Responders: This 4-hour online course offered through the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service encompasses an all-hazards approach to HazMat incidents, including acts of terrorism where WMD materials may have been used, providing participants with resources on how to recognize the hazardous material, protect themselves, notify others, and secure the scene.
