Joseph S. Yu., M.D., FACR, Professor of Radiology and Orthopedic Surgery, obtained his undergraduate and medical degrees from the Ohio State University.  After completing a residency in diagnostic radiology at his alma mater, he furthered his training under the tutelage of Dr. Donald Resnick at the University of California, San Diego.  Since then, he has authored 300 papers, chapters, and abstracts, and given over 160 national and international lectures, including20 visiting professorships.  He is the sole author of the popular Musculoskeletal Imaging: Case Review, and though the 3rd edition was published in June, 2016, it is already on the best-selling list of textbooks.  He was co-editor of the 2008 ARRS course syllabus State-of-the-Art Emergency and Trauma Radiology and in 2015, of Problem Solving in Emergency Radiology, which is endorsed by the American Society of Emergency Radiology (ASER). Dr. Yu has been an active participant in funded research. To date, he and his co-investigators have received over $11 million dollars in grants, including the prestigious multi-year Osteoarthritis Initiative Grants. 


Dr. Yu is currently serving as President of the ASER. He has served on numerous national and international committees in several distinguished radiology organizations including the American Board of Radiology, and also serves on the American College of Radiology (ACR) Appropriateness Criteria Committee. Dr. Yu has been an advocate of radiology education since the beginning of his career and has served in educational panels for the ARRS, ASER, ACR, ISS, and RSNA. He has received honorary fellow status in both the ASER and ACR.
