2003 Gold Medalist - Dr. Stuart E. Mirvis

 

Stuart E. Mirvis, MD, FACR is a professor of radiology at University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore. Previously he was an associate professor of diagnostic radiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and was an adjunct faculty member of the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, in Washington, DC. His hospital and administrative appointments include a position as chief of diagnosis in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Maryland Medical Center and as a consultant Diagnostic Radiology staff member at Kernan Hospital and Mercy Hospital, both in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Mirvis completed his residency in diagnostic radiology and his internship at the University of Maryland Hospital, in Baltimore. He received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.  He earned his bachelor’s degree at Johns Hopkins as well, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa.  

A founding and charter board member fellow of the American Society of Emergency Radiology (ASER), Dr. Mirvis has also served as president of the ASER, chairman of the Membership Committee, secretary-treasurer of the ASER, and as a member of the planning committee and the ad hoc committee on equipment. In addition, he is a member of the following associations and societies: The Association of University Radiologists, the Maryland Radiological Society, the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), the American Roentgen Ray Society, the PAN American Trauma Society, and the American Society of Neuroradiology. Dr. Mirvis is also a fellow of the American College of Radiology.

A prolific researcher and invited speaker, Dr. Mirvis is author and coauthor of approximately six hundred publications including peer-reviewed and non- peer-reviewed journal articles, books, chapters, case reports, literature reviews, book reviews, letters to the editor, editorials, and abstracts. 

Dr. Mirvis has served on the editorial board of Trauma Quarterly, the journal, Emergency Radiology, and has served as editor-in-chief, clinical quiz editor and editorial board member of Applied Radiology. He has served as a reviewer of Emergency Radiology, the Journal of Intensive Care Medicine, the Journal of Trauma and the Annals of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Mirvis has served as a referee for Investigative Radiology and as a guest editor for Emergency Radiology.

The recipient of numerous honors and awards, Dr. Mirvis was honored with the presentation of the American Society of Emergency Radiology Founder’s Lecture at the 10th annual scientific meeting.
